GRANNY SQUARES AND WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH THEM!

This summer I designed

the

First Flower of the Year Square

First Flower of the Year Square

Originally designed for the Florence dress
a lovely lacey summer dress:
The Florence dress

As any granny-square, also this one change appearance according to yarn-size and quality, hook size, colors, and color combinations within the rounds.
The square has 10 rounds, quite large. You can however stop working in any round, and achieve a new square-design and measure, every time.

I have used the full square, half square, or part of the square, in several other projects, with different yarn- and hook-sizes. See samples below.

Every design comes with a crochet pattern, follow links:

FIRST FLOWER of the YEAR SQUARE
This block was originally designed for the Florence dress.

Later I have used the full square, half square, or part of the square, in several other projects, with different yarn- and hook-sizes.

As any granny-square, also this one change appearance according to yarn, hook size, colors, and color combinations within the rounds. The square has 10 rounds, quite large. You can however stop working in any round, and achieve a new square-design and measure, every time.

PHOTO above LEFT:
Two samples showing how the square change appearance with different  yarn and hook.

Large square: Yarn: DK/Hook: 5 mm/H/8. Measure: 25x25 cm (10x10 “)
Small square: Yarn: Fingering/Hook: 2,5 mm (C/2).
Measure: 16x16 cm (6 1/4x6 1/4 “)
PHOTO RIGHT above, and below: Close-ups.

I love this square, as it's so adaptable and useful!
It's not boring to work, or too complicated. It has everything from
a circle, to plain stitches in a square, to the final wave-border,
which makes it special.

  • This square will make a beautiful bed-spread or afghan!
  • Looks great as summer-top or dress.
  • Create a very special look in DK or heavier.
  • Super for ponchos, cardigans or sweaters!
  • Only limited by your fantasy!

FLOWER POWER HIPPIE SANDALS

BOHO SUMMER STYLE
Sandals with sisal-soles, made for street-wear.
The instructions describes step by step how to make the sandals, for any teen/adult size and foot-shape!

OUT-SOLES and INSOLES:
The sandals are not possible to make without soles, so included in this pattern, you’ll find tutorial for the Door-Mat Soles used for this design; My easiest method for How to make customized out-soles for street wear.
FOOT-PIECE:
The foot-pieces are made by the diagonal (triangle) of my “First Flower of the Year Square”, used for the Florence-dress.
Make it in any material you like.
I have a passion for raffia, also called bast; Soft fibers collected from the inner bark of certain plants and trees. Great for summer accessories.

Firenze/Florence Granny-Lace Crochet white Dress

Firenze Granny-Lace Dress

A lovely summer dress!

White granny-squares, so classy and summer fresh! The “First Flower of the Year Square” is designed exclusively for this dress.Looking at the dress, granny squares are not the first I think of, more a lace-fabric! The Italian town Firenze (Florence) was famous for its lace fabrics for centuries, that's why I have included this town in the pattern title!

Dress it up or down; Cover-up on the beach,
party-dress, or even a wedding dress!
Large squares, simple joining method.
You need 8 squares, and 4 half-squares for the bodice,
and 7 squares for the hemline of the dress.

Work the squares into a top, a tunic, or a dress
in any length.
Easy mesh below the bodice.

Close-up of squares and mesh-pattern.

Large squares, simple joining method.

Half finished mesh, a great tunic!

Straight squares in hemline.

Optional chest-piece.
Can be used also on back-piece, and/or in sides.

Simple twisted spaghetti straps.

Lungomare Crop Top

Top for hot and lazy summer days!

Lungomare means ‘‘Along the beach’’!
Imagine yourself strolling along the beach with this cute crop cover-up top!

Skip or add lace-rounds to achieve everything from bikini-top to a long tank top.
The cups are easy to work, and have a good fit for most women. 3 cup-sizes.
The cups are worked with linked dcs (Ldc) to avoid gaps between the stitches.
No lingerie or lining is required, as the linked double crochet creates a dense fabric that is not see-through.
The shell-pattern is worked in the round to the bra-edge,top/down.

Lungomare as bralette.

Can be worked with open side, or in the round.

DOOR-MAT SOLES - DIY Soles - TURN SLIPPERS INTO SHOES FOR STREET WEAR!!

DOOR-MAT SOLES

Turn your crochet (or knit) slippers into shoes for street wear!

Customized Method for ANY foot-size and foot-shape, infant to giant!

I LOVE the option to wear my crochet-slippers on the street!
Like canvas shoes, the traditional Espadrilles with rope-soles. Years ago I invented the Any size Cord-Sole method. Creates the most beautiful soles, and they will always be my favorites. As much as I love them, the Cord-Soles are just too time-consuming for me as I often need several pairs a month for my designs.

DOOR-MAT SOLES are the solution, creates very good, strong soles, fast and cheep!
The post for the Spring-Flower Slippers joined to the soles are HERE!
The Door-Mat-soles are the result of my need to make a pair of solid, comfy, sturdy, durable, and cheep soles,
FAST!

Doable for all handy crafters.
No sole-hole-punching! No seaming!

The soles are made of a DOORMAT! Bound to be strong and durable, right??

One-piece slippers will be joined to the soles, or you can continue to crochet a shoe in rounds on top of the sole.
Note that sealant/glue is involved in the creating of this sole.

You need a doormat, woven, made by sisal or jute,
Rubber backing is great.
The edge around the sole are a band crocheted with hemp-string.

DONE!
Ready to join your slipper!

The beauty of a handmade Door-mat Sole!
